I hope you all got a chance to catch me on last night's
KCPT Auction. It's always a great time to go down and help out with the Public TV auction...I personally think it's important that we fund creative media that is made by and for the people.

Anyhow, here are some pictures from last night's auction. Yes, that's me modeling some PJ's...Hugh Hefner's got nothing on me!
See my whole KCPT Auction picture set by CLICKING HERE!Also, if you were listening to The Drive Home yesterday, you know I was to try and work 5 "code words" into my sales pitches last night. The words were:
Grandma's Attic
Jack-O-Lantern
Kittenbritches (?)
Scrumptulescent
"Don't JACK Around..."
Listen up this afternoon to see if I got all of the code words in!
Halloween is my favorite holiday.
Maybe it's because Halloween seems to fall perfectly at the intersection of great weather, football season, and the propensity to find warmth at the bottom of a cup of spiked cider or a beer bottle?
Actually, I am a huge fan of scary movies, going to the Haunted Houses, and the parties. Oh, the parties!
Here's the part where you out there have to help me... First off, thanks to the guys at
KC Costume for providing costumes for the JACK FM staff. They're located right across the street from the Western Auto loft building at 2020 Grand in KCMO. See them for all of your costume needs.
But, it begs the question, what should this year's Halloween costume be?
Food for thought. Check out which costume I will NOT be wearing this year. And yes, that IS Keifer Sutherland.

I went down to the Grand Opening ceremonies of the
Sprint Center today and it did not disappoint!
Former
Mayor Kay Barnes spoke about this great accomplishment, along with
Mayor Funkhouser (yep that's the Mayor to the right, with myself and Miss Jamie, JACK's Promotion's Director)
, spokespeople from Sprint and AEG, and
Garth Brooks came by to welcome the crowd and reveal that one of his concerts would be broadcast live from Sprint Center to movie theaters across America.
The Kansas City Symphony played and the natives were restless to get the party started. After all, many of them had taken off of work downtown to come look at this spectacle so they wanted the show on the road.

Finally, though, the ribbon was cut and the viewing ceremony was underway!
And yes, it's an Arena. When I was there the hockey floor was down, but they were going to change it periodically to show the basketball floor and the concert floor.
It's free to go see our new landmark today until 10:10pm.

Wow...are we all recovered from the weekend?
I told somebody in our office today that if you didn't find something to do this past weekend you must be Howard Hughes - because everyone had an excuse to be out doing something. This was the busiest weekend I can remember this city having in a long time.
Let's recap:
Friday night you may have hit
First Fridays or maybe the
American Royal!?
I was at the Royal for our live broadcast Friday afternoon and couldn't have had a better time! Thanks to the guys from the "Smoke Out Of Steel" BBQ team who gave us a great on-air interview and treated us like kings off-the-air (i.e. - they hooked us up with beer and BBQ!). By the way, it doesn't seem right to say you've lived if you haven't had "Elk Ribs."
Oh, and a shout out to our friends at
Brancato's Catering for also showing us some rib lovin'! It was great to see people helping this great Kansas City tradition thrive! Now, if they can only find out who
stole the bull's head....
BTW - get more pics from my time at the American Royal BBQ HERE!
On Saturday who wasn't watching when either Kansas beat Kansas State (sorry, Brady!) or the Missouri Tigers handled the Nebraska Cornhuskers? Two huge college games with fans on both sides of the state line. As a Jayhawk myself I am actually now pulling for Missouri to beat Oklahoma this coming Saturday so both KU and MU will be undefeated going into The Border War game on November 24th at Arrowhead!
It would be just like old times when this game is actually going to mean something - maybe a Big 12 North title!
And I suppose I'll mention that Sunday I went to the Chiefs game. But the outcome was so poor that it's barely worth a mention here.
My friend
Ernie (
left) wants all the Chiefs fans to buck up and not be so fairweather, but it's hard to get on the bandwagon when it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, much less when it doesn't seem to be pointed towards
Phoenix, Arizona!
