Stuff To Give Away
It's Thursday on The Drive Home and that doesn't mean anything special...except for the cool stuff I'll be giving away today. **Tickets to see Third Eye Blind, Saturday August 4th at the Uptown Theater. JACK FM is presenting the show along with Mammoth. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10a at all Ticketmaster locations and it is an all-ages show. I've seen them about 3 times in concert and it's always good, so get tickets now!!! Did anyone watch the Paris Hilton interview on Larry King Live last night? Did anyone think she was super-nervous and probably not telling the truth about most of what she was talking about? Shout out today at 866-576-7105 and let me know what you think!
Thank You, Kansas City
It was truly heartwarming to see that Kansas Citians raised over $80,000 Tuesday in JACK FM and Cumulus Media Kansas City's first ever "Feed The Children" radiothon! Thank you to all who donated to a great, worthy cause...it's because of you that over 15,000 KC children and their families will receive food and personal care items. A lot of people have called or e-mailed looking for information on Operation Breakthrough, which you can get by clicking on their name or HERE. The picture is Steve from Feed The Children ( left, back to us) and Rick Tamblyn from Your Morning JACK in the early hours of the radiothon.

Concerts And Questions
Last night was the Ben Folds/John Mayer concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. What a great night for a show under the stars! Thanks to everyone that came up and saw us at the JACK tent at the show! And after the concert, thanks to those who tuned in for our first ever "Concert Encore." We played a bunch of live tracks from both John Mayer and Ben Folds and took calls from - literally - hundreds of you that were stuck in the line leaving Verizon!! It was great to entertain a whole parking lot of fans that just shared a great concert experience! It was also good to hear your opinions of the show: in short, it was what these two guys didn't play that seemed to get your goat more! Most people felt let down by the lack of "Brick" or "The Luckiest" on Ben Folds' part. And many people wondered what happened to "Daughters" and "Your Body Is A Wonderland" from the Mayer set. Either way, JACK FM is looking to enhance your concert experience this summer. In addition to more tickets to give away, we'll continue to have a big presence at all the summer concerts with our pre-show parties and post concert encores on the air! And for your enjoyment, here are some pics I snapped with my camera phone... In today's Programming news, our "Question of the Day" comes from Kathy T. My radio in my car used to display the title and artist of the song playing but now it just displays 105.1. Has this service changed...or do I need to have my car radio looked at?"
I've gotten this question a LOT recently. Back in the early part of May, we had a fire at our main transmitter facility. It took out a bunch of electronics and melted many small parts I didn't know existed! For those who don't know what a radio transmitter looks like, it's that thing on the left that makes those magical sounds come out of your radio. Pretty boring, huh? Well, lucky for all of us, JACK has a back-up transmitter, which we have been broadcasting on since the middle of May. Unfortunately for people like Kathy whose car radios display what we call "RDS" (title/artist/etc), our back-up transmitter is not equipped to transmit this information, which will explain why your radio will appear blank when tuned to JACK FM. At the latest update we may be operating from our main later this week...I'll keep you posted. For you tech-heads, here are some of the computers it takes to broadcast JACK FM to Kansas City... bt

They Like Us! They Really Like Us!
Last Thursday night the radio, print, TV, and advertising communities gathered for their annual banquet and to present some awards for the year. JACK FM and our parent company, Cumulus Media Partners, were lucky enough to be honored in numerous categories by our peers: Account Executive of the Year: Laura Accurso (JACK FM) Personality of the Year: Rick Tamblyn Station of the Year: JACK FM! I am super pleased and very excited to receive these awards. There are a lot of people who work behind the scenes at JACK to make us what we are, and this just validates that hard work. So...the next time you're listening to Your Morning JACK and Rick fumbles something, please call 866-576-7105 and bust his chops for his "Award Winning" newscasts and commentaries. By the way, the picture shows our award (though you can't see the lettering very well!) in the studio where JACK broadcasts live to you everyday.

Ask The PD
Now that everything seems to be in working order it's time to really fire up the ol' blog. As I've said before here, please write with any questions, comments, suggestions, or recipes: bryan.truta@cumulus.comToday's question comes from Brian: I listen on the internet and for the love of GOD add some variety. Save the internet and let us here (sic) the freaking regular commercials...you know - LIKE EVERY OTHER STATION WHO HAS INTERNET BROADCASTING.As I've explained to Brian, the internet has raised some curious problems and concerns for the entertainment industry in recent years. Like the fight over royalties for internet broadcasters (you can read more about that here) and copyrighted video from tv shows appearing on YouTube. A few years back, the union that represents the voice actors in the commercials you hear on radio and TV (named AFTRA) started demanding more money for commercials that are rebroadcast on the internet. The union claims the internet broadcast is separate from the over-the-air broadcast and wanted money for that extra performance. That led many stations to adopt policies of covering up commercial breaks with station promos, music, or - in some cases - silence. It is our policy at JACK FM to cover up our commercial breaks as well. Now, maybe we haven't been as diligent about coming up with new material to play in the webstream, but since we mostly listen to our over-the-air broadcast in the building, the internet feed gets overlooked. We'll take some time here to come up with new music, promos, or something to give the webstream some variety. Either way you listen to us, we appreciate it and thanks for backing JACK (just like those guys to the left)!
