KC'S NEW SHARK BARWhenever there's a big event at the Sprint Center, you can bet JACK-FM will be right across the street at the Shark Bar. Wander onto the gigantic dance floor, and you'd swear you had just stepped off the beach for a rum drink and some Bob Marley music.
Or, head out to the patio for a perfect view. No, silly -- a perfect view of the entertainment on the KC Live! stage, not a perfect view of the bar girls.
Jeff from the JACK-FM sales team says: hugs are better than drugs.

HEAVY METAL Truta and I were invited to tour the Chevy plant in Fairfax, Missouri. Imagine 85 acres of factory under one roof -- more than double the floor space of the Sprint Center! Plus, this enormous factory has a set of train tracks running straight through.
SANDALS? REALLY?For safety's sake, anyone not wearing proper protective gear on their feet must be carted through the walking tour. I teased Truta for wearing open-toed shoes at first. Then it dawned on me that he got to hang out with the gals and skip the long hike. Hmmm, maybe the boy is smarter than he looks after all, LOL. WE ARE THE ROBOTS Here, roughly 2,600 locals (and countless robots straight out of a Kraftwerk video) work 'round the clock to assemble the award-winning Chevy Malibu. (Big thanks to Steve Farr for the factory photos.)

BATMAN RETURNSJACK-FM was at KC Riverfest Independence Day weekend. Highlights included fireworks, local bands including the Zeros, decadent food, and this working motorcycle from Warner Brothers' new Batman film Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. Apologies to our friends in the adjoining tent, I saw a red button and I didn't know the torpedo launchers were loaded!!! FREE STUFF RULES Speaking of taking the show on the road, we had a blast at the Fairways at Lakewood Apartments in Lee's Summit. It was a perfect day for grilling, lounging around the pool by the clubhouse, and cranking JACK-FM on the big speakers. Here, the staff shows off some gifts for new guests, including widescreen television, free cable for a year, and even $500 credit cards. BBQ HEAVEN The Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle started in 1982 with twelve contestants and twelve judges. In 1984, Governor John Carlin declared the contest the official Kansas State Championship. As you can imagine, Sugar Bear and I were more than happy to sample some of the country's best BBQ during our live broadcast!

BETTER THAN EZRALast week marked JACK's official start to the summer concert season, so my show was live from the Crossroads KC concert venue. The only thing that could possibly improve a Better Than Ezra show under the stars? How 'bout a huge slice of Grinders pizza! The future's so bright, Better Than Ezra's gotta wear shades. Left to right: drummer Travis McNabb, moi, singer/guitarist Kevin Griffin, and Bear Bob from JACK's Department of Free Stuff That Rules. Sample the new album via their MySpace page.
PRICE CHOPPER
Speaking of live broadcasts, thanks to the crew at Price Chopper in Bonner Springs for letting us hang with them for the weekend. The sky was clear, the Johnsonville brats were hot off the grill, the watermelon was on sale, and JACK was booming over the big speakers. They were even making up fresh strawberry pies all day, now THAT'S how you know it's summertime!
WENDY'SThat reminds me, keep your eyes peeled for the JACK Hummer at your local Wendy's restaurants. We've been handing out free breakfasts on Wednesday mornings, to demonstrate why they're waaaay better than fast food. Ain't nothing better than a Frosty on a hot day either!

CONCERT SEASON So many huge shows in the upcoming months, and I've already seen a few good ones. A few that stood out:
Best Sound The Breeders at the Bottleneck Friday was the perfect night for a short road trip to Lawrence, Kansas. But how do you choose between the Breeders and Wilco just a few blocks apart? Breeders won by a nose on the strength of Kim Deal's tenure with the Pixies. The crowd was enthusiastic, the sound was impeccable, and the beer was ice cold.
Most Rabid Fans David Cook at Blue Springs South High School The day started with a bang on JACK's Big Breakfast, as American Idol David Cook arrived for his homecoming reception. If the screaming fans lining the halls weren't enough, then the subsequent performances in KC and Blue Springs sealed the deal. Experience David Cook Day all over again on Bryan Truta's blog, featuring video footage shot by Yours Truly.
Best Cover Songs Stolen Winnebagos on the KC Live! Stage Nothing like a Cinco de Mayo party in the Power & Light District, with note-perfect renditions of everything from Cake to Black Sabbath. Viva la Winnebagos! And thanks to Miller Lite for sponsoring the JACK-FM VIP section in the balcony, complete with free food and Miller Chill. Best Awe-Inspiring MegamixerDJ AM at the Ink Magazine launch partyForget that he was a member of Crazy Town, the one-hit wonder band that did "Butterfly." Forget that he's recorded with Papa Roach and Madonna, hung with Jim Carrey and dated Nicole Ritchie. DJ AM is a ninja master of the digital turntable mix, equally at home mixing Beethoven, Little Richard and the Beastie Boys. Click HERE for Ink Magazine's homepage.

WOO HOO, WE'RE AT THE ZOO JACK spent a good part of the weekend broadcasting at the Kansas City Zoo. We were showcasing $11 million in renovations to the entryway, funded by private donations. The kids loved the new Missouri Trails exhibit, especially the swimming otters. Our thanks to the crew from My KSMO for keeping us company!

APRIL SHOWERS, MAY FLOWERSBrian Truta had a wedding to attend this weekend, so I got to stand in for him at Jack Miller Kia. Everyone who took a test drive got free gasoline and flowers from Lowe's. We also handed out free passes to our pre-screening of the new "Speed Racer" movie at the Legends 14 Theater, it's the latest from the creators of the Matrix trilogy. Gotta love Kia, with up to 34 miles to the gallon and that huge 100,000 mile warranty!
